Back in the 1950s and even later, many high schools had shooting ranges. Students even brought their own rifles to school.
What changed in society that we could trust such activities then, but not now?

kids went to school then with their 22’s and kept them in their lockers . No mass shootings despite guns in school
And archery ranges as well.

My Catholic high school in Sydney built a .22 rifle range in 1071 or 1972 – long gone now tho
In Jr. High School in the late `70’s in Phoenix, AZ, teachers would take us Trap/Skeet shooting once a month.

Took my own 22 rifle to 4H & learned at age 9. What changed? Democratic party became the Communist Party of America.

I belonged to my H.S.’s official rifle club in NYS in the mid-70s. Had a faculty advisor & an on-campus range.

What changed? Back then you weren’t special or important until you worked very hard and EARNED it.
Mine did and we had a shooting team! And that was in the 60’s!

The one I went to did. Idaho Falls High School. We never had any school shootings. We learned to use and respect firearms.

We had gun safety course @school 4 everyone (TX). My dad said he & buds regularly took their shotguns 2 school (CO).
In the 1990s I had a gun rack with guns in it in the pickup that I drove to school. Nobody cared.

in the early 70s we all had guns in our truck. It wasn’t any big deal, we were taught to respect firearms.

My high school had one for the ROTC rifle team and qualification into the 80’s. Probably still does.
Families were intact during those years so kids were not lost like they are today.

Ours had one. Maybe .22s or pellet guns but, it was a range all the same. We were the Class of 1982 in St Joseph, MO!

1982 when I was in 7th grade, I took an outdoor rec. class. We shot .22 rifles, bow & arrows & shotguns. Loved it!
